Human Rights Policy
At Sophie Bille Brahe, we are committed to respect all internationally recognized human rights throughout our operations and value chain. This policy is based on the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and aims to detect, prevent, and mitigate adverse human rights impacts — and to provide access to remedy where needed.
Our Commitments
We are guided by the following international frameworks and standards:
· Universal Declaration of Human Rights
· International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
· International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Core Conventions
· UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (including gender dimensions)
· UN Women’s Empowerment Principles
· OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Business Conduct
Where national laws fall short of these standards, we apply the higher standard.
Scope
This policy applies to Sophie Bille Brahe ApS and all our business partners, including suppliers, subcontractors, vendors, and retail partners.
Salient Human Rights Areas
We focus our efforts on the following areas, where our business may impact people’s rights most significantly:
1: Working Conditions and Labour Rights in the Supply Chain
We recognize the inherent human rights risks in the sourcing and processing of gold, diamonds, and pearls. We are committed to support:
· Fair wages and working hours
· Safe and healthy working environments
· Equal treatment and opportunities for all workers
· The elimination of forced and child labour
· Protection from harassment, abuse, and discrimination
We pay particular attention to vulnerable groups, including women, migrant workers, and low-wage laborers.
2: Responsible Sourcing of Raw Materials
Even recycled materials can pose human rights risks. We strive to ensure that all our raw materials are sourced responsibly and traceably, with suppliers who:
· Adhere to internationally recognized human rights standards
· Provide transparency on origin (e.g. certified recycled gold, conflict-free diamonds)
· Follow best practices for environmental and labour conditions in pearl farming
We work towards verifying sourcing practices through certifications and third-party audits where appropriate.
3. Fair and Safe Work Across All Operations
Internally, we promote an inclusive, safe, and respectful working environment. We are committed to:
· Diversity, equity, and inclusion
· Safe working conditions
· Support for physical and mental well-being
· Non-discrimination in hiring
We expect the same from our partners throughout the value chain.
4. Access to Remedy and Freedom of Association
We believe that all workers must be able to speak up without fear of retaliation. We support:
· The right to form or join trade unions
· Collective bargaining
· Open dialogue with workers and suppliers
· Accessible and trusted grievance mechanisms throughout our operations and supply chain
We encourage all partners to maintain fair complaint and remediation processes, even in jurisdictions where legal protections may be limited.
Human Rights Due Diligence
We conduct ongoing human rights due diligence, aligned with the OECD framework, including:
· Identifying actual and potential human rights impacts
· Taking action to prevent or mitigate these impacts
· Tracking and evaluating effectiveness of measures taken
· Enabling access to remedy where we have caused or contributed to harm
· Using our leverage to improve standards across our supply chain
We conduct periodic risk assessments and, where relevant, engage in third-party evaluations or certifications.
Governance and Implementation
The responsibility for this policy lies with the Head of Sustainability, reporting to the executive team.
The policy is reviewed annually and updated as needed.
Implementation is supported by related internal policies:
· Supplier Code of Conduct
· Environmental Policy
· Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Policy
· Privacy Policy
